LASIK Process

LASIK is a refractive surgery procedure with roots in the late 1970s. This surgery can treat a broader range of nearsightedness than Radial Keratotomy. With LASIK people are allowed the freedom to enjoy life without relying completely on their corrective lenses.

 

 

LASIK combines the use of the excimer laser with Lamellar Keratoplasty, which is the creation of a corneal flap. This procedure enables the physician to correct patients with higher levels of nearsightedness. The majority of patients who undergo LASIK are able to pass a drivers' test and perform most of their daily activities without the need for their glasses or contacts.

The LASIK is an outpatient surgery that is usually performed in the doctor's surgical suite. The entire process only takes approximately 30 minutes to perform.

(1) A thin corneal flap is folded back

(2) The laser smoothes the cornea, allowing you to have better vision (30 to 90 seconds)

(3) The flap is returned to its original position where it adheres naturally

Many patients notice a dramatic improvement in their vision within the first 24 hours after the LASIK procedure. Patients may return to their normal activities within a couple of days.
