Nominated by husband, Darrel:
This would be a life-long present for my wife of 13 years.
My wife, Shelena, is an 8 year Air Force veteran who, two years ago, was diagnosed with Stage III (a) Ovarian Cancer. This crushed all of us but Shelena. She has fought hard and battled through it knowing all the while that the odds of long-term survival were dismal, but she kept positive the whole time. Two years later and after being determined and staying positive, she has lost 45 lbs., and she remains cancer free!
Shelena has been employed as a full-time dispatcher for Gage County for the last nine years. Shelena dispatches for the Beatrice Fire Department, Gage County Fire & Rescue, the Beatrice Police and the Gage County Sheriff's Department. When she works as a dispatcher, Shelena has to wear a head-set, which presses on her glasses, resulting in severe headaches, limiting her duties as a dispatcher. As her husband, I think Shelena has the most gorgeous eyes that I have EVER seen, and I'm not just saying this because I'm her husband. She has been wearing glasses since before she was a teenager and when she wears contact lenses, her eyes get irritated, sore and red from them, which does not help when she is at work or at home or with the kids and family. As a hard-working mother of two, who would and does do anything for anyone, I would be grateful if you would select her for the LASIK procedure as it is something that we have been talking about for years but we have not been able to afford, since her surgery! Also, because she deserves it.
Thank you,
Darrel
